The Art of War by Sun Tzu, or Master Sun, was written during the Warring States period in China sometime between 403 and 221 BCE. Recent scholarship leads us to believe that there was indeed a Master Sun who composed the thirteen chapters which constitute the core of this text. It is thought that this work is at the same time the collective wisdom of military theorists and generals passed down orally and ultimately reduced to writing by Master Sun. The Art of War is one of the most widely read and influential texts ever written on the practice and philosophy of war.
